More practical journalism

On this occasion I want to comment on the most important shortcomings of the curriculum of my career. In the Universidad de Chile, the curriculum of Journalism currently has many problems, in different areas. Although the curriculum was reformed two years ago, it has not been possible to give a complete solution to these failures.

Specifically, I value that there are branches related to the theory of communication, since it forms as critical and integral professionals. However, many times these subjects have academic charges even higher than our specialized branches (right mind of journalism). What usually produces the demotivation of students.

For example, many times we spend more time doing extensive essays or reading hundreds of pages of academic texts than developing journalistic products. Our career should be more practical and we should have more time to dedicate ourselves to reporting or research in the field.

Also, I think there should be a mandatory course on journalism with a gender focus. This subject should not only be an elective, since all students should receive training in this subject.

At the infrastructure level, ICEI lacks spreading and meeting places for the university community. This is a historical necessity of the faculty and must be resolved soon.

In the institute there are no suitable areas of study, beyond a noisy library. This often causes the ICEI to be only a place of passage and that it is not possible to build an organization among the members of the community.

My complex relation with English

Hi, in this post I will talk about my experience studying English at university I have studied the four levels of English, since I come from a very bad school. In my school the teaching of English was very poor, so I have a bad level of English. I have not been able to take all the courses consecutively, so I have had several periods in which I have not practiced. The truth is that having classes and especially speaking in English makes me very anxious, because I feel that it costs me much more than the rest. In the previous courses I had teachers who forced me to speak in front of my classmates (many times) and the truth is that it was quite traumatizing. I'm not exaggerating. It is unfortunate that the situations and personal contexts of the students are not considered at the time of their evaluation and teaching. That is one of my great criticisms of the program. All the same, I have improved a lot from level 1. One of the techniques that has helped me a lot is to re...

Internet security and social medias

Regarding internet security, the truth is that i do have much knowledge of this subject. For the same reason is that I don’t take guards or protect my personal information in the web. I know that the companies as Facebook, Twitter o Instagram sell the information of your users and it worries me. Some time ago, it was discover the scandal of Cambridge Analytics. There it was found that Facebook sells our data with macabre objectives. The media of communication say that Donald Trump’s triumph was related to this. In my opinion, the limits are very difficult to control, because in this days is almost impossible recover the privacy and security. Our data is exposed from the RUT in the supermarket until the online formalities of the university. My favorite social media is Instagram, because it works based on images and photographs. This social media belongs to the company Facebook. For this reason my data is unprotect and surely they are used by businessman and politicians for electoral...

I don't like read books

Hello, in this occasion the topic of the post is: the books. The truth is that I confess that I do not like to read books. Most of the time I read books I do it by obligation for me, either at school and university. I prefer to read journalistic articles in the media. For this reason, my favorite book is a journalistic book. It is titled "Los suicidas del fin del mundo" and was written by argentine journalist Leila Guerriero. The story is about a suicide of young people in an argentine town called Las Heras, in the south of the country. There theories are presented as the generalized depression of the youth place or criminal networks that forced them to kill themselves.  They are very interesting chronicles, so I recommend it. Another that I would also like everyone to read is the last one I read. It is a research book by journalist María Olivia Monckeberg. It is titled: "El poder de la UDI". The book reveals the hidden history and networks of power of...
